The Best Networking Phone Apps for Professionals

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Make connections that matter thanks to these five business networking tools

The business world is all about making connections—with customers, potential customers, experts in your industry, and even your competitors.  However, if you find yourself having trouble making those connections, you might feel left in the dark as far as what’s happening in your industry.

Keeping in touch via social networks, business blogs, conferences, and business lunches is vital to business success. Luckily; your smart phone can help with that! The following five applications for the iPhone, Blackberry and Android devices will ensure you’re rubbing elbows with the right professionals…

1. MeetMe (Free – for iPhone)

MeetMe is a powerful social networking app that provides opportunities for business professionals to, well, meet up and exchange valuable contacts and knowledge. This app literally bridges the gap between offices so you can arrange to meet a colleague, mentor, business expert, or (more…)

The Reason Our Economy Bites

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

What’s wrong with us? Why are we unemployed, selling nothing, and getting ripped off from every angle? Seriously, look around. Everything that is not gold glitters all around us, while we exist surrounded by unneeded, sale-priced, junky trinkets. Why are half the businesses boarded up in our downtowns?

A couple of real-life Zombies I know and like. Check out the Zombie in the background.

Some offer real, quality products, others offer willing service, and some offer ideas to make a change for the better; they are all confronted with skepticism and low consumer confidence. Apathy abounds. While no one wants to be sold anything, every one wants to buy something, and they do, only to be scammed out of (more…)

Grow you, grow your Biz!

Friday, January 27th, 2012

I think everyone would agree that the more you grow your knowledge, the greater your skill in the marketplace. The more you practice, the better you get. The greater your body of work, the greater your opportunity.

My friend Robb Buckland posted on his FaceBook profile a great truth:

I’ve come to embrace the notion that I haven’t done enough in my life. I’ve come to confirm that one’s title, even a title like master or sensei, says very little about how well one’s life has been led. No matter how much you’ve done or how successful you’ve been, there’s always more to do, always more to learn, and always more to achieve.

That’s what building a body of work is (more…)

Head on Straight and in the Game

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Special thanks to Frank Reed for his talk at the Integrity BizBuilders this morning.

As a man thinketh…

Long before the Secret, there was the philosophy that the mind is the master weaver of our character and our circumstance. Download the entire book, free, here.

The Me I See.
Are you congruent? Is what I am doing a reflection of what I ought to do.
Alignment. Getting things congruent. We give the perception that things are in alignment.
Like a car that is out of alignment, there is excessive wear and tear on the parts of the car. We give the illusion that all is well. How many times do we sabotage ourselves?
First off, is our thinking in align with our own values? Do we have (more…)

“What is Hustle?”

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Thanks so much to veteran sales warrior Ray Hawe who not only gave me potentially one of the most important referrals of my career, but also sent me this poem.

Ray had this on his wall for decades, and it served him well.

No, it is not gay to send another man a poem. It is cool.

Especially this one that, if taken seriously, will separate the chaff from the wheat, the children from the go-getters and the pro’s from the dilettantes!

WHAT IS HUSTLE? by who knows?
Hustle is doing something that everyone is absolutely certain can’t be done.

Hustle is getting the order because you got there first,
or stayed with it after everyone else gave up.

Hustle is shoe leather and (more…)

Gratitude is the Attitude of Success

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Radio Host Sue Lunquist on the I'm Thankful Network

In my business life, and even before, I have been especially fortunate to meet some very successful people in the world of business. Importantly, the success that they achieved was their definition of success. Many of the people I am referring to here, many times, have made vast amounts of money, and others have not. Some have run small, well controlled businesses that they are proud of, or even charities that just squeak by financially though make a large impact on lives around the area, country or world. By “success,” I guess I mean  (more…)

Visualize, Dream and Obtain

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Dare to dream BIG dreams. Many people have dreams of success for their business and they will continue to be merely dreams until the dreamers themselves become doers.

Choosing your success means taking necessary action in an appropriate manner to ensure you achieve your goals. In other words, choosing your success means making your goals a true priority. Before you can choose to make your success a priority, however, you must clearly (more…)

Will Atlas Ever Shrug?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

There is going to finally be a movie, a feature length film, based on the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. It is to be released 4/15/11 , ironically and appropriately on “tax day.” No mention of this in the mainstream media… I wonder why?

Here is what the book and potentially the movie is about and a lot of facts, debate, and interesting discussion from John Stossel.

We’ll see if the movie is true to the book. If so, it will be the most talked about movie of this (more…)

Do it yourself education often pays bigger dividends

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

“Some people get an education without going to college. The rest get it after they get out.” ~ Mark Twain

That is a funny statement, but it really is almost true. I wish I had gone to University, sometimes, instead of going into the US Navy. But I remind myself that I probably was in a better place to learn the things I needed to learn there instead of the ivory halls of academia. (more…)

Setting Appointments, Selling, or Building Relationships on the Phone

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

The mindset of the masses is that the telephone is a great tool for communicating with each other. The business professional has a narrower viewpoint and uses the phone for business purposes. There are a few basic philosophies that should guide the business on how they use the telephone. Day to day, it may vary, but most organizations will benefit by having a base-line policy of what the phone is for, and every conversation should move toward a goal.

* Is the phone for setting appointments only, and nothing else?

* Is it for building relationships?

* Are we expecting to close a sale on every call?

* Is the phone for gathering information?

What is your policy toward the phone? Is every call and purpose for the call scripted, or is there at least a track to run on? Make this a place to share some tips and techniques for phone management so comment, and comment on the comments.
